The search for 80 year old Leroy Nye is entering it’s second day, with no leads into where he may be. It’s believed Nye has been missing since approximately 1:30 AM Sunday morning. Officials have had some leads but they’ve taken searchers to no particular place. The Hand County Sheriff’s office is still asking that people check sheds, barns, lean-tos or anywhere Nye may have sought shelter. Authorities believe Nye has likely left the roadway and may be on farm and ranch ground. If Nye is not located soon, officials fear he may not survive. Nye has not had any known food, drink or medication since he left the Saint Lawrence home he was staying at. The Civil Air Patrol is being called into the search effort and planes are likely to take to the air today. They will have planes in the air working highways 281, 14, and 34. A private pilot volunteered his plane and flight time in Beadle County Monday. Searchers are still needed on the ground however. The dark green 2001 Chrysler Intrepid he was driving had a full tank of gas and Nye could be up to 400 miles away. If you see the dark green Intrepid with South Dakota license 33-M 2-0-2 your asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
