Last fall, Northwestern Energy began making the switch to “smart meters”. The project, which covers the entire Northwestern Energy service area is being performed in stages. The work is currently being done in the Huron area.
Spokesman Tom Glanzer says the digital technology will allow the company to better support customer inquiries, pinpoint outages and reduce the need for meter readers to access customer’s property.
Glanzer says the workers installing the meters are not Northwestern Energy employees.
Glanzer says even though the installers don’t work for the company, they can answer customer’s questions.
Glanzer the project is about 30% complete in the Huron area.
If you have any questions about smart meters or the installation process, you are asked to call Northwestern Energy at 1-888-358-9345.
