Northwestern Energy Says “Smart Meters” Will Improve Service Reliability

Northwestern Energy will soon start installing “smart meters” across its electric and natural gas networks.

Spokesman Tom Glanzer says it’s a thirty five million dollar project

Glanzer says they will be able to find and restore service outages more quickly

The smart meters will communicate with Northwestern’s service center for billing, trouble and any other issues that may occur at that location.

Glanzer says they hope to have all the new meters in place by late next year

Glanzer says homeowners may see their crews in their neighborhoods, replacing the meters. They will install about sixty five thousand new electric meters ,and upgrade forty eight thousand gas meters in South Dakota.
