North and South Dakota Record Declines in 4th Qrt GDP

North and South Dakota were the only two states to see a decline in real gross domestic product for the fourth quarter of 2017.

The federal Bureau of Economic Analysis says North Dakota’s GDP declined by 1.3 percent and South Dakota’s by 0.5 percent.

The BEA reports that agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting subtracted from the Dakota’s performance.

Other states’ performance in the region:

  • Wyoming, +1.7 percent.
  • Minnesota, +1.5 percent.
  • Montana, +1.3 percent.
  • Nebraska, +0.9 percent.
  • Iowa, +0.7 percent.
