South Dakota Soybean Processors and World Food Processing are partnering to produce non-GMO soybean meal. SDSP CEO Tom Kersting says there is robust demand for non-GMO meal for livestock feed in the U.S. and internationally. They’ll be processing this meal at their newly acquired processing plant in Miller.
Kersting says World Food Processing has conventional soybean seed and is working with producers on contracts. And there is a premium associated with growing non-GMO beans, just like there is with organic. The advantage is growers don’t need to be USDA certified.
He says they hope to be processing and offering non-GMO and organic meal this summer with a goal of crushing 4 million bushels of soybeans annually.
