Noem Signs Capitol Carry Bill, Law Takes Effect July 1st

Governor Kristi Noem has signed the Capitol carry bill into law.

Concealed guns with the proper permits will now be allowed inside the Capitol Building in Pierre, for the first time.

The law goes into effect on July 1.

“The State Capitol is already a safe place thanks to the dedicated men and women of our Highway Patrol. With this law in place, law-abiding citizens with the proper permit will be able to carry in the Capitol, just like they can in so many other places,” says Noem.

Supporters say concealed carry in the Capitol will be more potential protection for state workers and state lawmakers.

Critics say the Capitol’s current security procedures already do the job.
