One week ago, US Representative Kristie Noem visited Huron to hear from local officials about concerns they had and what she could to to possibly help. The Congresswoman listened with awe on her face as she heard Huron Public Safety Director Gary Will explain the challenges he’s facing trying to get help from federal law enforcement. Will told Noem that for something as seemingly simple as having documents translated into foreign languages, he was bounced back between multiple agencies being told it was the other ones responsibility…
Noem was stunned with what she heard.
Noem says Huron is unique with regards to law enforcement because of the large refuge population…
Will also explained the how the F-B-I is refusing to allow instructors to come out and teach specialty classes even if local agencies pay the costs due to new rules and the significant drop in federal aid to local law enforcement. Noem had her staff take notes about Will’s concerns so she could address them when she returned to Washington D-C.
