New Trial Date Set For Man Charged In Staged Armed Robbery

NorthStarPhotoA new trial date for a Cavour man charged with grand theft and commission of a felony with a firearm was one of many items accomplished during a Tuesday court appearance for Donnell Williams. Prosecutors attempted to have Williams’ five-thousand dollar bond revoked because of a DUI conviction he received in July, while out of jail on bond from charges pending regarding the staged armed robbery of a Huron convenience store in January. Deputy Beadle County States Attorney’s Dan Nelson told Judge Jon Erickson he believed the D-U-I conviction was clearly a violation of the earlier conditions of bond from the robbery case. That condition being, Williams stay a law abiding citizen for 360 days. Defense Attorney Mary Keller told Erickson she believed the D-U-I conviction would not affect her client’s earlier bond status. Erickson appeared stunned by Keller’s response. He denied the motion to revoke Williams bond but told the 26-year-old quote, “You mess up again, your going to jail”. Keller also requested “several dozen” still photos from surveillance video taken that allegedly show Williams entering the North Star Convenience store. She claimed prosecutors failed to provide her with the pictures. Erickson said the State has provided the video itself and told Keller she could have 10 photos made, with additional pictures coming at her expense. A new trial date was set for October 19th. Co-defendant Sidney Malone pleaded guilty in July to grand theft and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with four years in prison suspended. Malone is said to be cooperating with law enforcement in the case.
