The latest phishing scam is targeting small business owners directly in the form of an email claiming to be from the Better Business Bureau, saying the recipient has had complaints filed against them. Jessie Schmidt with the BBB explains how the scam works.
Schmidt says there’s some tells that should expose the message as a fake:
Schmidt says the B-B-B will always address your company by name and provide a reference number in such correspondence, something that the scammers left out of their fake message. If you’ve received the message destroy it immediately and notify the BBB.
