Huron Regional Medical Center announces the appointment of Erin Scarborough, medical lab technician, as the new laboratory director replacing Owen Bain, MT (ASCP) who will retire July 1.
Scarborough, who began her new role on May 31, is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of HRMC’s laboratory, as well as supervision and evaluation of the capabilities of testing personnel. She also works with medical staff and other hospital departments to ensure quality, safe, efficient and accurate testing services with the end goal of providing clear diagnosis and treatment options for patients.
Scarborough has eight years of leadership experience as lab director and manager. For the last three years, she has worked at an 87-bed hospital in Woodward, Oklahoma, where she provided leadership support to the respiratory department in addition to lab directorship. She has additional training in lean management and has a goal of completing a green belt certification.
“I am excited to begin my new role here and am looking forward to working with the lab team to deliver excellent diagnostic services,” said Scarborough. “My passion is to help create an atmosphere where everyone is engaged heart, soul and mind.”
Scarborough holds a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. She also recently completed a master of science in management and leadership (MSML) from Western Governors University in Utah.
She and her husband, Billy, who works as a welder at Overbuilt, recently moved with their family to Huron. “I grew up in Nebraska and Huron feels very much like home – my family and I look forward to getting connected and involved in the community,” said Scarborough.
