The South Dakota office of School & Public Lands is in charge of leasing out gas and oil rights on the acres they control.
Commissioner Ryan Brunner wants to update the process by putting their lease auctions online.
Brunner says the bill they will ask the legislature to consider is not a big law change.
Brunner says they would not have to add any new equipment or people, instead using a third party.
The office oversees over seven hundred thousand acres, mostly in western South Dakota. Last year over eleven million dollars was earned from those public lands.
