Measures to legalize medicinal marijuana and recreational use of marijuana are on the November 3rd ballot this year. Previous attempts failed in 2006 and 2010 to approve medicinal marijuana use by South Dakota voters. New Approach South Dakota is addressing IM 26 and is in support of amendment A. Melissa Mentele with New Approach talks about their approach to the two issues.
Opposition groups are focusing on amendment A, the measure to legalize recreation marijuana. Mentele says their tactics are a bit disturbing.
They are scheduling an event called “days of action” wednesday September 30 in Pierre and Mitchell to get people registered to vote.
Initiated measure 26 would allow South Dakotans with serious health conditions to legally and safely access medicinal marijuana. More information is available at newapproachsouthdakota.org
