Nelson Says Proposed Wind Projects May Need to Be Adjusted

While federal regulations on operations of coal fired power plants have been relaxed, most energy companies are moving toward cleaner plans to generate electricity.

South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Chris Nelson says while wind production is growing, many utilities are also looking at natural gas powered peaking plants

Proposed wind projects in Lincoln, Bon Homme and Charles Mix Counties have run into local opposition. Nelson says the projects may need to be adjusted to fit their locations

Nelson says the PUC has not yet officially seen the plans for those projects

Lincoln County Commissioners this week again put off a decision about setbacks for wind towers in their county.
