Nebelsick Says Denying Students Breakfast Over Conduct Issues Violated Policy

Huron Superintendent Terry Nebelsick says protocol was broken earlier this week at Huron Middle School when students were denied breakfast over conduct issues.

A video of a conversation between a teacher and the parent of one of the students was posted online. The teacher states the students were talking in the hallway and not following directions on the way to and from breakfast and were told they were denied breakfast for the rest of the week.

Nebelsick says he was made aware of the situation yesterday.

Nebelsick says a complaint was filed with the South Dakota Department of Education.

Nebelsick says staff have been in contact with the parents involved and have apologized. He says the district will review protocol with all staff and put in safeguards to avoid a situation like this in the future.
