NEBELSICK RESPONDS TO PRE PRIMARY PAC MAILER

THE JUNE PRIMARY IS STILL PRESENTING SOME SIDE STORIES SOME RELATED TO LEGISLATION FROM THE 2024 SESSION.  IN ONE CASE A TARGETED MAILER RECEIVED ON THE SATURDAY PRIOR TO THE PRIMARY BY REGISTERED REPUBLICANS WITHIN THE DISTRICT 22 AREA.  DISTRICT 22 HAD THREE REPUBLICAN OPPONENTS WHO WERE SEEKING THE TWO POSITIONS FOR HOUSE IN THE DISTRICT.  THERE WERE NO DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR A SEAT IN THE HOUSE SO THE TOP TWO VOTE GETTERS WOULD BE ELECTED.  THE INTENT OF THE MAILER POSTCARD  WAS TO SMEAR THE REPUTATION OF TERRY NEBELSICK AND HINDER HIS VOTE.  THE MAILER WAS SENT FROM A POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE CALLED CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES PAC THE PERSON REGISTERED TO SPEAK FOR THE GROUP IS ELIZABETH MAY FROM KYLE, SOUTH DAKOTA .  I WAS ABLE TO SPEAK WITH ELIZABETH AND ASKED HER IF THE MAILER WAS A PERSONAL ATTACK ON TERRY NEBELSICK

May responded to what a political action committee would have an interest in a district house race with no ties to the area to vote in the race.

Terry Nebelsick’s 29 years with the Huron School district included serving as high school principal and superintendent of the Huron School district.  He also remains active as chairman of the SD School Finance Accountability Board and chairman of the State Board of Education standards.  May said those years with the education back ground are not what is needed to move education standards forward.

Conservative Principles PAc had four quotes that Terry had given and from statements on boards in which he served. He was receptive to give his response to the criticism on those partial quotes.  The first said “one of the blessings of his professional life” to watch Huron transform into a city that “looked more like the world than rural South Dakota”.

The quotes in the mailer were partial and used only to help their position.  In the second quote Terry said A restrictive cannabis policy would “disrupt learning environments in schools”.

Two remaining comments on that PAC mailer we will address tomorrow and hear Terry’s best wishes to the winners in the district race.  Tomorrow on Huron Radio News.
