Nebelsick Expects Special Education Funding to be a Top Priority for Upcoming Legislative Session

Huron superintendent Terry Nebelsick, says he expects the state funding formula as it relates to special education to be a top priority for the next state legislative session.

Nebelsick says the problem isn’t confined to South Dakota.

Nebelsick says more students are being identified as having special needs but federal funding is not keeping up.

He says the state has been making up the shortfall.

The Huron School District has seen an explosion in the number of children classified as special education needs. He says the evaluations are accurate.

Nebelsick serves as president of the South Dakota School Superintendents Association
