A Howard, S.D., woman has been identified as the person who died late Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash that occurred east of Mitchell.
A 2014 Buick LaCrosse was westbound on Interstate 90 and had slowed down due to traffic being backed up because of a crash on I-90 at mile marker 333. A westbound 2012 Dodge Ram pickup rear-ended the LaCrosse, causing it to strike a 2018 Toyota Corolla.
Joan Spader, the 76-year-old driver of the Buick LaCrosse, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The pickup driver, 71-year-old Robert Launderville of Denison, Iowa, was taken to the Mitchell hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Also transported to the Mitchell hospital was Dennis Evers, 69, Mitchell, who was the driver of the Toyota Corolla. He suffered minor injuries. It is not known whether he was wearing a seatbelt.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
