Mitchell Police Deal With Grenade Scare

Mitchell Police are dealing with a potentially live grenade. Lieutenant Don Everson says a 68 year old man brought the unexploded device to the Police Department for disposal shortly before noon Thursday…..

The man apparently found the grenade while helping a friend clean out a building in rural Davison County northeast of Mitchell. It’s believed a deceased relative of the property owner acquired the grenade several years ago.

A Davison County Sheriff’s Deputy searched the property where the hand grenade was found. No other explosives were found. Everson says it’s believed the device may be a training grenade. No one was hurt.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Davison County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
