Mitchell Murder Suspect Will Not Face the Death Penalty

A Mitchell man charged with murder after a stabbing last summer will not face the death penalty if convicted.

The parents of Quinn Schleuning will not seek the death penalty in the case of 49-year old Michael Lewis.  Lewis appeared in Davison County Court yesterday.  He has pleaded not guilty to first and second degree murder after being accused of stabbing the 30-year old Schleuning several times in the early morning hours of August 22nd at an apartment in downtown Mitchell.

The defense yesterday asked for funding for a crime reconstruction expert.  They’ve also requested a change of venue for the trial.  Although Lewis will not face the death penalty if convicted, he could still face life in prison if convicted on either of the murder charges.
