Mitchell Man Injured While Practicing Quick Draw

Mitchell police received a report of a 19-year old man with a gunshot wound at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital Saturday night.

After an investigation, it was determined that the injury was the result of the reckless handling of a firearm.  The man was at his Mitchell residence and was practicing his quick draw with a .45 caliber revolver that he thought was unloaded.  He shot himself one time in the leg and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

One other person was in the residence at the time of the incident.

Criminal charges are pending.
