Mitchell Lawmaker Finds Daugaard's Tax Stand "Interesting"

During a stop in Rapid City last week Governor Dennis Daugaard said he opposes a temporary sales tax increase that would sunset after a certain time saying that lawmakers would lack the political will to enforce it.  State Senator Mike Vehle of Mitchell says that’s an interesting thing for the Governor to say……

Governor Daugaard says he wants to balance the state budget through a ten-percent cut in spending without raising taxes or using reserve funds.  Vehle says he’d consider using limited reserves as a last resort…..

The state has a structural deficit of $127-miilion dollars and approximately $107-million dollars in reserve.
