The Mitchell City Council last night discussed reassessing the Corn Palace Festival’s location. Corn Palace Director Scott Schmidt says the amount of money the city receives from carnival provider Goldstar has decreased annually.
Schmidt says a primary factor for the declining revenue from the midway is lack of space in the carnival’s current setup, which has led to a lack of quality rides. The first option would be to keep the current setup from 1st Avenue to 7th Avenue on Mitchell’s Main Street. Schmidt says a second option would move the midway north between 5th and 8th Avenue, utilizing area parking lots along with the streets.
The city council will take public input on the issue, which will be addressed again at a November meeting.
