Mid-American Business Conditions Index Down Slightly in July

After rising to a six year high last month, the Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index for July fell, but still shows a solid reading according the latest monthly survey results.

Ernie Goss, director of Creighton University’s Economic Forecasting Group says the overall index is still in positive territory.

Goss says the July employment index remained above growth neutral, though slipping to a still solid 56.5, from 60.7 in June.

Goss says what Congress does, or doesn’t do will also have an impact on the regional economy.

Goss says looking ahead six months, economic optimism, as captured by the July business confidence index, dropped to a still strong 60.2 from 67.5 in June.

The survey covers a nine state area, including South Dakota.
