Greater Huron Development Corporation Executive Director of David McGirr gave his first semi-annual report to the Huron City Commision since taking over the position from the retiring Jim Borszich. The report included an overview of the construction and expansion projects underway in Huron.
McGirr gave an update on the various projects going on in the Southtown Addition, including Jefferson Village.
McGirr says Iverson Auto has made significant progress in their plan to build a combined Chrysler/Ford dealership in Southtown.
McGirr says dirt work should begin this summer with construction set to get underway in the fall. The 25-30,000 square feet facility expected to be open in the fall of 2019.
McGirr also reported that Wheatgrass Village, Ground Round, and Dakotaland Federal Credit Union are on schedule in Southtown and will all be completed this year.
In the West Industrial Park, McGirr reports production is underway at North Central Foam
The Dakota Provisions West plant represents a $45 million investment in the facility, equipment, and training. will start with 100 employees initially with an additional 250 added later this year.
McGirr says a major business expansion will be announced soon which will mean the addition of 14 high paying jobs in Huron with additional expansion expected over the next 3 to 5 years.
