A McCook County Sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital after being shot by a suspect.
Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg says a pursuit started at around 2AM this morning in McCook County and led the deputy into Lake County. Once the suspect’s vehicle stopped, both exchanged fire and the suspect took off on foot about 15 miles south of Madison.
Law enforcement have set up a perimeter in that area, and deputies have gone from property to property and notified homeowners about the situation.
The suspect is believed to be on foot and authorities are doing an active search for them. A description of the suspect has not been released.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, and Walburg says he is doing okay.
More information is expected to be released later this morning.
