The city has been contacted by residents asking if letters they received from a company called ServiceLine Warranties of America are legitimate.
Mayor Paul Aylward says its not a scam. Back in July, the city authorized a marketing agreement with the company.
Aylward says the program is voluntary and residents are not required to participate.
Aylward says many communities have entered into agreements with ServiceLine Warranties, including Aberdeen.
According to its website, ServiceLine Warranties offers repair plans to local homeowners by partnering with municipalities and cities and works with a network of professional contractors to handle water, sewer, gas line repairs.

The city reminds residents that wrapping paper is not recyclable and therefore should be placed in the brown containers, not in the green containers.
Commissioners authorized paying $750,000 to the Community Development Fund for Vantage Business Park. The funds will be used for land acquisition costs. The money will be paid out in equal payments over fiscal years 2018-2027, with the first $75,000 payment to be made this month.
