A Huron man has pleaded guilty to housing two juveniles who escaped from the Beadle County Jail last fall. David Mendoza admitted in court to Judge Jon Erickson he concealed Eduardo Valdez and Matthew Rainbow in his home after the two broke out of the Beadle County Regional Correctional Facility late last year. Valdez and Rainbow, assaulted a female jailer and broke free from the jail in Huron around 9:30 PM on November 13th. A tip led authorities to Mendoza’s home at near 8th Street and Dakota Avenue, were the two were tracked down roughly 12 hours later on November 14th. Concealment of an escaped prisoner is a Class 5 Felony, with a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a 10-thousand dollar fine. As a part of a plea agreement with the 20-year-old Mendoza, prosecutors have agreed to drop a second concealment charge and two counts of being an accessory to first degree escape. Erickson ordered a pre-sentence investigation. A sentencing date was not set.
