Man Pleads Guilty To 2009 ATM Theft In Wessington Springs

Pukwana man has pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with Bank Burglary. 19-year-old Kalup McGhee and a second un-named person broke into a convenience store in Wessington Springs and stole an ATM machine in December of 2009. The ATM was owned by a federally-insured bank. The investigation was conducted by a number of local, state, tribal and federal law enforcement agencies from the Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office to the FBI. A factual basis statement filed in court said the ATM was valued at $3,000 and contained at least $7,000 in cash.   Court files indicate a plea agreement is pending for a second man charged in the case.  McGhee will be sentenced July 18th. He faces maximum penalties of 20 years in prison and/or a 250-thousand dollar fine.
