Lower Sales Tax Receipts Contribute to Difficult Budget Process for City

Earlier this month, the city of Huron approved the 2020 annual budget.

Mayor Paul Aylward says the budget process was more complicated this year.

Aylward says the soft farm economy has effected sales tax receipts.

The mayor says department heads were asked to take another at their budget requests.

Aylward said another factor to consider when putting this year’s budget together was several large projects that are planned for 2020.

Large street projects and a water main project are also set for 2020.

The 2020 total budget was $32,674,365, a 4% increase over the 2019 budget. The city was able to balance the budget, using $2,002 from reserves.
