The trial of a former bar owner accused of raping three young women after getting them drunk will be moved, to June 27th through the 29th. Carmen Means, the lawyer representing Werner Fajardo filed a continuance in the case last Wednesday according to Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore. Fajardo’s trial on 15 charges, that include a number of sex crimes was scheduled to begin next week. Also undecided is a decision on whether to allow expanded electronic media coverage of Fajardo’s trial. The court has received requests from at least two media outlets so far. Proceedings continue to be on hold for Thoung Sing. The 24-year-old Thai immigrant was charged in early December with kidnapping and attempted first degree murder for allegedly attempting to strangle his pregnant wife. Moore says there have been no motions hearings in the Sing case so far and that Sing is still being evaluated at the Human Services Center in Yankton. There also have been no new court dates established for Christopher Santfleben. Santfleben was arrested and charge with two counts relating to having what Moore calls a “napalm-like” material in his possession. He was arrested following an overnight stand off with police last month. Santfleben posted bond and is currently out of jail. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the case.
