Three bills are moving through the South Dakota Legislature that would make changes in county zoning. House Bill 1201 passed through committee last week. South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch says it’s designed to enhance local control.
However, he says this is not an attempt by the Governor or his department to force livestock development on any county.
Lentsch says after working with 49 of 66 counties in the state on county site analysis the zoning boards were the ones that asked for this next step.
