The Sturgis man charged with killing a Huron man in 2009 is scheduled to be sentenced today at the Beadle County Courthouse. Forty-three year old John LeGrand made a plea deal with prosecutors in Beadle and Meade Counties that has him pleading guilty to 1st degree manslaughter for shooting Ricardo RJ Hein with a shotgun four times. Circuit Judge Vince Foley could sentence LeGrand to 30 to 40 years in prison per the plea agreement. In Meade County LeGrand pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance to a minor and habitual offender information. He could get up to 20 years on those charges. Followin the 1:30 sentencing, Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore with hold a post sentencing press conference with the media and members of Hein’s family.
