A Sturgis man convicted of manslaughter in the 2009 death of Ricardo R-J Hein is continuing to try and gain his freedom. Beadle County States Attorney Mike Moore says a Habeas Corpus hearing was held last month for John LeGrand…
Moore’s office must file their legal briefs on the issues addressed by the end of the day today, LeGrand’s legal team another 30 days to file theirs and the judge will take as much time as need to make a decision. Moore says LeGrand’s options are running out…
LeGrand is serving a 40-year sentence for first degree manslaughter and at the same time a 20-year sentence on Meade County drug charges. Meanwhile a Habeas Corpus filed by Shannon Flowers was denied by a judge. That decision has been appealed to the South Dakota Supreme Court. Flowers is serving a life sentence for the 2009 murder of Brittany Chua and her unborn daughter Hannah.
