The South Dakota Municipal League is floating a proposal to give cities an opportunity to raise revenue for a particular project through a limited one-cent sales tax increase.
State Representative Tona Rozum of Mitchell, a former city council member and member of the House Local Government Committee likes the idea….
According to the bill, the municipality would designate a particular project with a set dollar amount, plus a sunset date, that requires voter approval. If the necessary funds were collected before the sunset date, the tax would end.
