LANE, S.D. (AP) – The majority of residents in the small eastern South Dakota town of Lane want it to remain a town. Residents voted 28-9 Tuesday against dissolving the town. Margaret Schmidt thinks taxes are getting too high and circulated petitions prompting the vote. Opponents said dissolving the town would have ended services such as street maintenance. Lane is 7 miles east of Wessington Springs and once had around 350 residents.
