A Lane man accused of using a hand gun to steal two bottles of soda pop from a Huron convenience store in June has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the charges against him. Martin Moeller entered the pleas to charges of first degree robbery and commission of a felony with a firearm Tuesday. Huron police were called to the Super-X store at Ninth and Dakota around 1-40 A-M on June sixth, after a clerk reported an armed male entered the store. The man attempted to purchase two bottles of soda, but did not have the money. He left then returned with a long barreled revolver and left with the items. The sixty-one year old was arrested by Jerauld County Sheriff’s deputies following tips from the public after a surveillance photo was posted on the Huron Police Department’s Facebook page. A trial date for Moeller is tentatively set for November 5th, however Judge Jon Erickson noted that a psychiatric evaluation of Moeller must be performed first and that motions and trial dates will likely be changed.
