Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) announces Jennifer Kalahar has earned the professional designation of Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE), according to Marcia Zwanziger, MBA, vice president of finance and CFO for HRMC.
Kalahar, director of HRMC’s Physicians Clinic, Women’s Wellness Center and outreach clinics, earned the designation through the American College of Medical Practice Executives, the certification entity of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).
To earn the designation, she completed two written ACMPE examinations that assess knowledge of the broad scope of medical practice management skills such as business operations, financial management, human resource management, information management, organizational governance, patient care systems, quality management and risk management. Kalahar also earned 50 continuing education credit hours in a 12-month period.
“I wanted to pursue this designation to ensure that I have a true understanding of managing a provider clinic so that HRMC can deliver quality health care to our community and region,” explained Kalahar. “It’s also important to me to have the knowledge and experience to partner with our providers to help them meet their practice goals.”
“I’m extremely proud of Jennifer’s commitment to continuously improve her knowledge, skills and abilities,” explained Zwanziger. “She does an excellent job working with our physicians, clinic staff and hospital departments to make sure our patients can access the care they need when they need it.”
Kalahar has worked at HRMC for more than 24 years, beginning in 1994 as unit secretary on the surgical floor. She worked as an administrative assistant in home health for six years and served as director of home health and hospice services and outreach until she began her current role in 2015.
Originally from Huron, Kalahar holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems from Huron University. She and her boyfriend, Tim Hess, live in Huron. Kalahar enjoys spending time with her daughter Kayce, who lives in Brookings, and gardening, cooking and acrylic painting.
