JOAN HULL – RECENT HURON PUBLIC LIBRARY DONATOR PASSES AWAY AT 94

A Huron High School counselor from 1975 to 1990, originally from Oklahoma who graduated from South Dakota State University, Joan Hull passed away November 2nd at the age of 94.  In 1995 Hull began writing a weekly column for the Daily Plainsman, she also wrote a series of books, Hull The Heavenly Pottery, a pottery price guide book.  She published 7 editions of that book.  In a recent news story on Huron Radio I spoke with Joan Hull as she was donating a key piece of her collection that she acquired in the 1980’s.  The 6 foot tall Italian stone woman statue was purchased from the estate of a friend and neighbor.  The statue is now part of the South Dakota Room at the Huron Public Library.  Hull said that she wanted to insure that the statue had a good home.

Hull spoke with Huron Mayor Gary Harrington about donating the statue in October.  The discussion led them to the placement of the statue at the Huron Public Library South Dakota Room.
