James River 98% Chance For Major Flooding

The National Weather Service has issued its latest flood outlook for South Dakota Rivers. the James River at Huron now has a 98-percent chance at major flooding. The likelihood of record flooding at Huron is at 25-percent. The James at Mitchell has a 45-percent chance at record flooding. Major Flooding at Forestburg is a 95–percent chance, with 20-percent chance at record flooding. Redfield is at 80-percent for major flooding and 35-percent for record flooding. A number of area lakes were added to the March outlook. Lake Bryon is forecast to be just under record levels this spring by one-tenth of a foot. Lake Thompson could hit a new record high level by two feet. Lake Henry in Kingsbury County is forecast to hit a new record high by a half foot. Another lake that could rise to record level is Willow Lake in Clark County by almost two feet. Twin Lake in Sanborn county could rise within three feet of a new record but is forecast to not break the record.
