Idea To Law; HB 1210 Moves Through Legislature In 15 Days

IMG_4350The City of Huron will now be able to restore liquor service to the Huron Event Center. Governor Dennis Daugaard signed House Bill 1210 Thursday. The bill carries an emergency clause making it effective as soon as it’s signed by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of States Office. The bill was first read in the House of Representatives on February Second and referred to the House Commerce and Energy Committee where it passed on a 12, nothing vote February fifth. The Full House passed the bill 53 to two on February eight, sending to the Senate. After a first reading in the Senate, February ninth, HB 1210 was considered in the Senate Commerce and Energy Committee two days later. That Senate Committee unanimously passed the bill six nothing, sending it to the Full Senate February 16th. All told the bill from introduction to passage was considered for 15 days. Republican Representative Dick Werner of Huron said in an email Thursday that the passage of HB 1210 was the perfect example of how government is supposed to work. It’s unknown how soon the City of Huron will apply for an on-sale alcoholic beverage license for the Huron Event Center under the newly passed legislation.
