Officials are closing Interstate 29 from the North Dakota border to Brookings at 4 p.m. CDT.
I-90 is currently closed from Rapid City to Mitchell, both east and west bound.
Officials says conditions are quickly deteriorating in the northeastern part of the state as Strong winds and heavy snow are creating zero visibility conditions and snow packed/icy roadways in much of the area.
I-29 is not yet bad north of Summit, but there are no facilities for travelers and is safer to keep them in North Dakota as the storm is moving that direction and conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon.
