As the City of Huron prepares for the beginning of a single stream recycling program, the ordinances governing solid waste in the city are getting an overhaul. The Huron City Commission spent over 25 minutes going over changes to remove outdated language and portions to the ordinance, and adopt changes relating to the recycling program. City Attorney Gerry Kaufman suggested that due possible delays in getting components for the recycling effort like, containers and a collection truck, an effective start date for collecting fees for the program should be closer to July….
The changes also address interfacing Huron’s program with private solid waste collectors like Waste Management….
The ordinance also breaks down housing units for recycling at apartment and other multi-person housing platforms. Second reading of the solid waste ordinance changes is scheduled for next week.
