Today, the Huron Youth Leadership Council was recognized for their work to support the local community by receiving an honorable mention in the annual Student United Way awards competition hosted by United Way Worldwide. The Community Champions awards program recognizes individual members and Student United Way groups globally who have excelled in the areas of community leadership, marketing and communications and innovation.
The Huron Youth Leadership Council received an honorable mention in this year’s competition and was recognized for their creativity and impact.
“The Huron Youth Leadership Council is a group of dynamic and committed students. Their passion for United Way’s mission and their dedication to the community is admirable,” said Andrea Sok, Director, Young Adult & Multicultural Engagement United Way Worldwide. “We hope their work will inspire other students to get involved in Student United Way to create change for communities around the world.”
The Community Champions awards program was open to any Student United Way chapter or individual for work completed in 2017. Winners will be recognized throughout the summer. The Huron Youth Leadership Council supports the work of the United Way Heartland Region. The Council is made up of high school students from Huron High School. The students are paired with community mentors to learn about board and community leadership. The 2017 Council allocated thousands of dollars, including funds they raised, to community organizations throughout the region.
