The music you hear at Splash Central this summer is setting the City of Huron back nearly 1000-dollars. The Huron City Commission approved music copyright licensing agreements with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, known as ASCAP, SESAC, LLP and Broadcasting Music Incorporated, B-M-I. City Attorney Gerry Kaufman checked with other municipal water parks across South Dakota and says it makes sense to go with all three…
The agreements extend beyond Splash Central….
Commissioner Kerwin Haeder says news late Monday is proof that the agreements are taken seriously. B-M-I and 12 other plaintiffs are suing the parent company of Wiley’s Tavern in Sioux Falls, T-N-T Entertainment, for playing six songs without paying the licensing fees. They are the same fees paid yearly by radio stations to broadcast music. The total cost of the yearly agreements will be 981-dollars.
