Huron Schools To Become Pilot School For Students Learning English As A Second Language

The Huron School District has been selected by the Governor Mike Rounds and the State Department of Education as a pilot school developing a program for working with students who speak English as a second language. Huron School Superintendent Ross Opshal (ops-all) met with Rounds, State Education Secretary Tom Oster and Rick Melmer of the University of South Dakota last week to talk about how Huron handles English as a Second Language, and how Huron could make it better….

The Universtiy of South Dakota will provide data collection and research functions for the pilot program with the Department of Education monitoring the programs progress.
