HURON SCHOOL BOARD 5/4/2020 MEETING

The Huron School District had their regular meeting Monday night via video conference and broadcast live on the district youtube channel.  Superintendent Terry Nebelsick stated that this is National Teacher Appreciation Week and he took the time to voice his support.

Covid-19 measures with school closures have been in place since mid March.  The school board heard plans to take the district back closer to normal operations.  Nebelsick said the hazard pay for staff working in the child care and food preparation program will revert back to regular pay.  A policy that would involve a staff member being called in to work but declines will now need to use sick leave until that is gone.  Business manager for the district Kelly Christopherson said the policy is in line with SD Department of labor guidelines of someone on unemployment insurance who is asked to come back to work and refuses then their unemployment would end.

Nebelsick commended class one employees who have continued to work throughout the district during Covid-19 measures and not missed work.  He recognized them for their efforts and said that school building will remain locked but will have staff working during business hours so calls will not go to voice mail.

While plans are continuing for a ceremony later in the year, he stated that a complete graduation program will be broadcast later this month.

Nebelsick gave credit to the people involved in preparing for the special event for the 2020 HHS graduates.
