The Huron Police Department says an individual in Huron has taken peaches from a dumpster that may be contaminated with dangerous listeria. Police say 46 cases of peaches, possibly containing the bacteria, were taken from a dumpster in the 200 block of 4th Street Southwest by an individual who was distributing the fruit. 28 cases are known to have been distributed in the community. Parties who may have obtained one of the 28 cases should immediately take them to the Huron Police Department location at the Huron Municipal Building at 239 Wisconsin Avenue SW. Fair City Foods in Huron recently announced they are recalling peaches as part of a nationwide recall of peaches distributed by a California company, whose says peaches packed between June 1st and July 12th tested positive for listeria, a bacteria that can cause a life threatening infection. It is of particular danger to older adults, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weak immune systems. Symptoms of listeria poisoning include fever, muscle aches, gastrointestinal distress, stiff neck, confusion loss of balance and convulsions.
