Huron Police have taken a number of reports of break-ins to cars and trucks parked on city streets. Deputy Police Chief Denny Meyer estimates that in nearly 85-percent of the vehicle break-in reports taken by the Police Department, the doors of the vehicles were unlocked. The other15-percent think they had locked a vehicle but hadn’t or the locks were not working. Meyer says very few automobile break-in reports actually have damage done to gain entry. He reminds residents in addition to double checking to make sure your car is locked , to always report suspicious activity to authorities. With Hunting season approaching, Meyer has concerns about the possibility of individuals stealing firearms and ammunition from unlocked vehicles.
