Huron Man Sentenced In Mitchell Jailer Assault

A 23 year old man is going to prison for assaulting and seriously injuring a Davison County Jail officer and causing intentional damage to property.  In September of 2012, Jeremiah Hart and several others stole a car in Huron, and drove it to Mitchell where it was found burned on the west side of Mitchell. He pleaded no contest and a separate robbery charge was dismissed.  While awaiting sentencing on the property damage charge, Hart attacked Jail Officer James Dietz on January 1st causing serious injuries.  Hart later pleaded guilty to the assault.  Judge Tim Bjorkman sentenced Hart to 20 years in prison plus $32,000 restitution for the assault. Hart was also ordered to serve two years in prison for intentional damage to property plus pay $3,800 restitution to the car owner.   His first chance at parole is 2027.
