Four semi tractor trailers are involved in a crash on Highway 14, one mile west of Arlington. It happened at 6:38 Tuesday morning.
According to the South Dakota Deparmtent of Public Safety, an eastbound semi driven by 21-year-old Joshua Waldner of Huron crossed the centerline into the westbound lane.
There were three semi tractor-trailers headed west as a group. The Waldner truck struck the first two westbound semi-tractors and the trailer of the third semi.
After the collision, the Waldner vehicle burst into flames. Both lanes of traffic were blocked, requiring a highway shutdown to clean up debris and tow the semis and trailers.
The Waldner truck and trailer was a total loss. Also total losses were two of the westbound trucks and all three trailers.
Waldner was taken by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of one of the other semis received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The three drivers traveling as a group were all wearing seatbelts. Their names are not being released.
All four of the trailers were empty.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
